Content on my YouTube channel
Before I even started my A2 Media Studies, I created a short film that I created in the game called "Minecraft" and I was making it in order to raise awareness and share my experience of the newly released Sound Physics Mod which adds in more realistic sounds "effects" to the game. E.g. everything in a cave will sound echoes. Everything in the video was done in one single take, some bits such as when the bat jump scaring me out of nowhere that was just a total coincidence but I kept myself in and just kept the recording software running.
This was my AS Level Media Studies Film Opening task. I was really proud of this project as I got an A from it!
This was a short film I created with a 2 other friends in order to gain a better understanding of the genre of Thrillers.
Last year we were assigned to create a 1 minute short film; here is what Richy, Toy and myself created within that hour.
Experimenting with Stop Motion
25th August 2017
Today, as it's FRIDAY! I was really motivated and tempted to do something media related. Therefore, I set up my camera on what used to be my bed which was inhabited by my figure collections and took a stop motion of me taking away one or couple figure at a time until they're all gone. Meanwhile, I also used my phone and attached it to a gorilla mount then attaching the mount to the leg of the tripod which was next to the box that I used in order to keep these said figures. Due to both device being used and nobody was home, I wasn't able to take a picture of what a ridiculous set up it was. Since this was a stop motion and not a time lapse, I must manually press down each shot manually. The camera was easy since settings are always kept the same; the phone on the other hand was a different story because the settings on the phone are automatically set so lighting may vary between picture and the gorilla mount was hard to keep in place. After I was finished with the tedious process of walking back and fourth and getting all dizzy that took around 2-3 hours, I took a break from this by illustrating a rough idea of the layout birds eye view style in Adobe Illustrator.
PS. Gorilla mount is a tripod that you can wrap the legs around any object and are which are really versatile and durable if camera must be placed in weird angles.
Once I finished eating dinner, it was finally time for me to edit the video. using Adobe Premiere as the main program to edit, I basically imported in the photo then selected the first photo of the sequence then tick the box that says Image Sequence on the bottom left in order for it to gather all the picture and turn them into one single premiere file instead on bunch of picture files. I then have to repeat the same process to the other sequence that I took with the iPhone which was the exact same method as the previous one. I might consider to do stop motion if I really run out of ideas, for now I rather stick with something else since stop motion will take a very very long time to set up and getting right takes a very long time.
This was written a few days later:
I was enquired by a friend to help me do his Biology homework, when he first mentioned it I didn't think I'd be able to do it since I know nothing about the subject. However, he was asking me about what the best software to use to create a stop motion was. I responded saying Adobe Premiere Pro; he said he didn't have the program. And so I said to him to send me the photos through LINE (Japanese app that many Thai people use that is equivalent to WhatsApp). I then downloaded the files then proceed the same method as I did the other day. However, the files were in the wrong order and to fast; therefore I re arranged the stop motion into the correct order and slowed it down to 40%. After that was a simple export and posted onto the Google Classroom of his Biology class and was the first person to submit it.
Messaging Effect!?
27th August 2017
From what I've watched yesterday, they all have a common set genre of romance. There are one commonality in which 2 of the 6 has in common. Which is that they are up to date in utilising social media in the short film to make it more appealing to younger audiences. There are various ways in doing it, one is a POV of the character and only focusing on the phone; the other way is by putting a clear text box sort of like a notification that shows up on smartphones for a certain period of time then going away.
From LALIN
From #TokyoUnexpected
I wanted to create something that combines both aspect from both films therefore this leads me to first creating a PNG picture which means that the picture with clear space will remain clear even when put into the video.
I then placed 6 layers of the same picture and place them 30 millisecond apart from another in order for easy reading if I were to use it and key framing scale and position so that it appears as the messaged is being shown on an actual chat message. After I'm finished with all the key frame, I inserted the Facebook messaging notifications to add representation that it's Facebook. Facebook's emotes was also used to once again add the feeling that it's Facebook.
Utilising Green Screen
7th September 2017
Richy and I weren't going home any time soon until around 5PM. We used the green screen in our classroom to our advantage by trying it out. Didn't think that it was going to be quite as effective. However, I did not know until now that just a bright green sheet of fabric can change the film industry forever of how effective it was!
We put together a little video to test out the capability of the green screen and possibly utilising this some way or another in our short film. Colour grading was also done to fit in which each of the scenes.
As for the cartoon green screen smoke effect, I found a video on YouTube which contains some interesting green screen cartoon effects which could come in handy if we decide take a cartoon approach to the film
School News Project: LionView Productions
21st September 2017
For the past 2 weeks, I've been working really hard behind the scenes as a camera man and also the main editor. This project was for a news program that my new Media Studies Teacher, Mr Simpson wanted to launch. It started off with the logo; I used Adobe Illustrator in order to recreate the Harrow's lion head and did the logo, the name had yet arrived.
That was a starting point to something amazing which I was grateful to be a part of. Going to film Richy for literally every events except one that were going on around school was an absolute blast to film and edit. I got a real sense of how news broadcast systems really works and even get to work on what was the biggest project I've ever worked on Adobe Premiere Pro. After hearing countless positives from friends and teachers all over school about it, the tremendous hard work I spent on the project was a huge pay off for me.
Getting to do this helps get me back into editing and practice these skills such as key framing, cropping and working with green screen once again. Overall it was an experience of a lifetime that'll never be forgotten.
Each individual videos of each events also needs to be edited then the final video of each event contributes towards the entire news. In order to help me edit, I planned out the green screen sequences on paper with the exact time of where they begin and where they end since there are 15 individual green screen; each are around 15 minutes long.
Here is the final video:
LionView Productions 2
1st October 2017
Once again. I was assigned to edit the news for this week. However, this time my workload between the team and I only had to edit some videos and put the entire news together. However, that doesn't necessarily meant that my workload was reduced; this project took me 8 hours to edit and 4 hours of rendering time. This long render time meant that mistakes are minimized to the point that it is unnoticeable.
Overall, this edition of the newswas a success and Richy's speech definitely perpetuates the success of it. In addition, many teachers came up to me saying that the editing was absolutely outstanding and professional looking. We also got got the feedback from students from lower parts of the school saying that they couldn't wait for the next part!
I was promoted to be the Chief Editor of LionView Production!
Adobe illustrator and Understanding of 'The Media'
5th October 2017
I was finally done with my Travel and Tourism exam; one exam done, one to go. Phew. Up until this point, the research on institution was still a little bit confusing to me; therefore I asked my Media Studies Teacher, Mr Simpson of how the media works if put into the most simplest way. He drew this diagram on the board and explained the process. The diagram was actually quite useful, useful to the point that I decided to recreate in Adobe Illustrator.
And so I did exactly that and spent quite sometime on it as a way to understand it AND to relax from the exam stress.
I also recorded me doing it but my capture software crashed
This was the final finished recreation done inside of Adobe Illustrator:
Every time I went on Google and search for either Blumler, Katz or Gramsci, the same images were always used. Therefore whilst I was recreating the diagram, I felt as if it needed a bit more originality to it. This lead me to recreating all of them in Adobe Illustrator. I was pleased with the results and it was the first time I used this program for something like this.
Representation Diagram
8th October 2017
Last night I went and looked back at the topic of Representation and saw that it wasn't looking as great as the other researches. In order to make it look more aesthetically pleasing, I spend and hour and a half visualising representation in Adobe Illustrator.
I was pleased with how it turned out and I my recording software actually worked this time.

Testing out Timelapse on the Canon 80D
11th October 2017
Just the other day, I saw a video on YouTube of a 30 days timelapse on a cargo ship and that video inspired me to take a timelapse; luckily there is a built in time lapse feature which means that there is no need to buy a intervalometer. (a device created for Canon cameras to press down the shutter on an interval automatically without any interactions to the camera itself)
After, I set up my tripod so that it's facing the sky, set up the manual configurations on the camera, enable the time lapse feature, set it to 2 seconds per interval and off it goes! It's really simple and intuitive. I left my camera for an hour and a bit and in return what I got was 1,935 individual photo files. I then imported the files into Adobe Premiere Pro the same way I did a while back with the stop motion in order to compact it into one video files. The video was compressed to a 1 minute file therefore I sped it up. to reduce it to 30 seconds with 60 frames per second. After that it's just the matter of exporting the video then uploading it to YouTube
The main reason of doing this today was of course to test out the time lapse function and also the fact that I might be using time lapse in order to make an establishing shot for our short film more interesting to watch and not just a regular shot of the scene we're trying to capture. E.g. the school. However, time lapse is still under consideration as some establishing shot may be a normal speed rather than a being sped up.
Dolly Zoom
15th October 2017
Today, Richy and I had some free time on our hands; this allows us to use our time to finally test out the dolly zoom that we might use in our short film. We only tried out the physical dolly zoom which means that the zoom ring are being zoomed in at the same time as the camera moving back. When I got home, I tested out the digital one, This means that I only move back and do the zoom in post production by key framing the scale and position of the video.
Fly Animation/GIF
19th October 2017
As noted down in the "Development of Idea" section, today we decided upon the final idea of our short film. We decided to draw it up instead of only using a font then decorating it. This is to add uniqueness to our film and give it a real sense of comedy and friendly feeling.
I wanted to animate the wings from both sides of the title; however that may take up too much time and might not even look good, therefore I am thinking of animating the fly so that is flying away from they Y. I don't have any animation software this means that I must re adjusted the fly's wings slightly in Adobe Illustrator as 3 new file separate from the main title in order to simulate movements for the fly. I then placed a green background behind it so that green screen could be applied afterwards in the post production stage. In order to animate the wings, I used a website called gifmaker which combines images to create a GIF image file. I then inserted the 3 images in order then placing it once again backwards so that the movement will be more smooth in the final product.
In order to show this off, WIX doesn't allow external GIFs from the one they provided, therefore in order to show it here and safe time for me in the post production stage, I placed the GIF file into Adobe Premiere bunch of times for it to loop for around 30 seconds to provide me with enough footage for the actual film title screen when it comes to the actual short film.
FUNNY MOMENT WHILST DOING MY BLOG:
Whilst I was typing up this blog post listening to music, an insect intruder came flying in out of no where and landed next to the drawing of the fly.
It was a very funny experience, so funny that I had to share it with my Media Studies teacher, Mr Simpson asking him whether I can post this on my blog because it is too funny not to share
Warp Stabilizer Test on Adobe Premiere Pro
23rd October 2017
LionView Productions 3
4th November 2017
The school haven't had a news in a month, this is somewhat good for the Richy and I since we did not have to film Richy in the studio and having me spend up to an entire day to edit it. However, we knew it would be coming back any time soon. Last week to be exact. I edited several bits here and there for all the specific story within the news. However, the Harroween video and all the part of Richy in the studio was all done by me.
The edit took around 14-15 hours to put together which was much longer that I first anticipated. I've came to the conclusion that time just literally flies when we're editing.
During this edit I taught myself how to make key frame images seems more realistic. As seen at 2:55 and 5:14. In this, Richy did hand gestures and throwing props on set which he purposefully did that so that I can add something later during post production. As the Chief Editor of Lionview Productions my job is that I put something or else it would be very boring. By the end of the project and when the entire school have watched it, I was really satisfied with what I have created with my very own hands; both suring the production and the post production!
New iPhone Wallpaper!?
18th October 2017
Once in a while I always change my iPhone wallpaper. All it comes down to is my mood at the time or what series/movie I was in to at the time. This time I decided to create my own wallpaper instead of just downloading a picture from the internet and using it. At first the wallpaper was just my avatar in the middle and that is it. I wasn't quite satisfied with it so I delve deeper and made myself a live picture iPhone wallpaper.
It's actually quite easy one I know how it works. First, set the video to a portrait format e.g. 1080x1920. I then placed a light gray color matte on the layer below my avatar then I insert an Iris Cross transition effect on both my character and the color matte. I then placed a layer of time lapse that I took myself the other day and let it play for 5 seconds before stopping. I now have a 5 second clip of my avatar transitioning to a timelapse. All that's left is to import this into my iPhone somehow.; this means exporting the clip. After that I import the footage into Google Photos which can transfer photos and videos almost instantly from one device to another.
I downloaded a free app called intoLive which turns video files into a live photo ready to be used. When the video was downloaded to my phone and imported into the app, I waited a few seconds and the file was ready to use! It looked really awesome and I'm really proud of it!
I showed it off to several teachers and friend and they were all amazed of it and some even requested me to make one for them!
University Portfolio
5th November 2017
I sometime ask myself "am I editing way too much?" to answer that I would think it's a yes. However, I think it is one of the most essential part in getting into Film and Television. When it comes down to doing my portfolio, I had so much that I put in but the university only allows 2 minute of everything combined. I started this portfolio last month and I think that I can say that I'm done with it. My personal statement is also done therefore the only thing to do now is send it off. It is kinda scary to think that someone who doesn't know anything about me is going to see it and judge it! Anyways, here is my portfolio in which I combine together every little projects here and there including last year's AS Media Studies film opening, the iPhone wallpaper I created a few weeks back, little bit of the food scene that I filmed for GratiFly a few days ago and also a very tiny bit from the LionView News I just edited yesterday!
Editing For Charity Mile
11th November 2017
Yesterday was the Charity Mile in which students are encouraged to either run, skip, dance or even walk all for charity! As a Lionview representative I went down for a little bit of a jog while also filming for the event for the upcoming Edition 4 as well as donating some money for the event! Richy was also involved in this project as well in which he was the one who wore the GoPro in the running footage seen below. Some of the footage was also taken by our Media Studies Teacher, Mr Simpson.
In this mini project I learnt to actually colour grade and start to understand the usage of a log profile even more! I did not shoot the view in a log profile as we had used more than one camera therefore I applied the log profile in Premiere afterwards. This is a diagram I created to show the process of my colour grading.
2 Richy!?
15th November 2017
We were supposed to film our coursework today. However, we ended up not filming due to some minor problems that made us unable to film for the day. Since my camera was already here and we just finished setting up for the Lionview Production Studio tomorrow, I suggested to Richy about why not try duplicating him just for fun. I allow him to have some improvisation time while I set up the tripod. Once we were ready Richy talk to "himself" from another video and in turns out that he did a great job spacing out the conversation for himself in another video! I was amazed when the footage was put together.
Although we did not film today, I learnt a new skill of duplicating. The reason I know how to do this was because this was very similar to last year the Media class was assigned to recreate scenes from the Zodiac movie and I did not have anyone else to work with besides Richy therefore I must duplicate him in Paint.NET. I can say that this one is easier to do as for last year I did not have a tripod therefore I must stay really still to remain the same position throughout.
Here were some of the results last year that I'm quite proud of:
I remember the poles being such a hassle to get right!
LionView Productions 4
20th November 2017
A fortnight passes by so quickly, once again I was put back to work as the Chief Editor of LionView Productions. This edit took me less than the last one which took me 15 to 16 hours of editing; this one however only took me roughly 10 hours of edit. Therefore I felt more attached and pleased with Edition 3. Although all that said, this episode we introduced a new co host to go along with Richy, her name was Bam from Year 7! Also, we manage to get 2 camera angles in the studio to change things up. Maybe this Edition wasn't so bad... Enjoy!

Expedition Video
9th February 2018
Recently I have little to no time to do editing as a hobby as GratiFly is taking up to much time. It was finally Expedition Week when the whole school is off to a destination. Sixth Former are quite fortunate in that we get to choose where we wanted to go. As I had military training camp 3 days after Expedition I decided to go for a more light and chilled expedition. I was thinking to get my head back into photography as I was doing SO MUCH video work however did this not quite work out as soon as we got on the ferry the idea of making a video of the entire trip sparks in my mind and therefore that had lead me to making a whole video of the 5 day trip. Without further ado, ENJOY!
Prefect Disco VideoS
18th March 2018
On the past Friday, the Prefects of the school had hosted a Disco event for students to join in. I wanted to help out with promoting leading up to the event and filming the event itself. The videos below are project that I have fortunate to be involved with in some way or another. I absolutely adore these projects as each one had was a blast to either to FILM or EDIT and full of enjoyable memories! Of course, Richy my partner in making GratiFly possible was also involved with all of this as well!
FYI. I spent half an hour research about Pacman when he eats the ghosts and how the scoring works and this includes me actually playing Pacman to get a better understanding on the game
This concludes my skills development over the course of 7 months this was one of the most productive part of my life I have ever felt in my entire life!
